    • Basic Floral Design and Care and Handling introduces you to the foundational concepts of floral design and reviews the proper care and handling of fresh products to ensure long-lasting arrangements.
    • Sympathy Design guides you through fundamental funeral floral arrangements, such as simple sprays, baskets, casket covers and wreaths.
    • Floral Management provides insight into the business side of owning a floral shop, including understanding essential financial principles and marketing strategies.

TSFA offers three successive industry-recognized certification levels to high school students, floral design teachers and floral professionals: Knowledge-Based Certification, Level 1 Floral Design Certification and Level 2 Floral Design Certification.

Experienced Florist

For florists pursuing their Texas Master Florist (TMF) designation, consider these classes that focus on deepening your knowledge of both design and business before pursuing your TMF.

  • The Wedding Bouquet and Flowers to Wear class in Leander on Aug. 26-27 elevates your bouquet and wearable flower techniques and updates you on the latest wedding trends. This is an intermediate class, and attendees should have previous wedding design experience.
  • The Intermediate Sympathy class in Leander on Oct. 17 expands your funeral flower skill set and focuses on designing classic casket sprays, accent pieces, set designs and cremation flowers. Successful completion of the Fundamental Sympathy class or funeral design experience is required to register.

Advanced Florist

For those who are ready to test for their TMF or already have their TMF and are looking to continue their professional development, the following classes focus on inspiration and specialization.

  • The Texas Master Florist classes in Leander on Mar. 13-16 and Aug. 28-31 are the final steps to earning your TMF certification. These three hands-on courses take your skills and knowledge to the next level and prepare you for the TMF exam:
    • Celebration of Life and Sympathy Design teaches you how to design advanced sympathy arrangements in baskets and containers, standing sprays, casket sprays and much more.
    • Wedding Florals: From Consultation to Completion gives you the business knowledge needed for a successful wedding floral consultation and the floral techniques to create advanced wedding designs, such as corsages, hand-tied bouquets, cascading bouquets, elevated designs and an arch.
    • The Elements and Principles of Floral Design will equip you with essential design knowledge and guidelines to use throughout your career. Students will create designs such as vegetative, parallel, vertical and formal linear.

*Please note that there are prerequisites for taking the TMF classes. A fast-track option is available for those who currently hold the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD®) or Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) designations.

  • The Professional Floral Design Evaluation (PFDE®) class in Leander on May 21-23 is open to floral designers who meet one of the following requirements: Hold the CFD designation, are enrolled in the process to become CFD, or are enrolled or planning to enroll in PFDE to become a member of AIFD.
