Texas Floral Endowment: Scholarships


SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE TEXAS FLORAL ENDOWMENT

The Texas Floral Endowment Board of Directors selected awardees for the scholarships listed below. Awardees are announced during the Endowment presentation each year in July at the Texas State Florists' Association Annual Convention.

The Texas Floral Endowment has a strong commitment to the principles of diversity in all areas of the floral industry. In that spirit, the applications for scholarships are open to all qualified individuals based on the specific criteria of each scholarship.

The amount of each scholarship is listed with the criteria and is received once proper documentation is made satisfactory with the Board of Directors.

ALLIED FLORISTS OF HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP HONORING LAVON BANKHEAD AAF AIFD PFCI TMFA

The 2017 Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship in honor of LaVon Bankhead AAF AIFD PFCI TMFA has been established in the amount of $500.00. The scholarship may only be used to attend the PFCI Commentating Class. Should a qualified applicant not apply to pursue PFCI credentials and applicant pursuing AIFD credentials or Texas Master Florists Credentials may be considered. The scholarship will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston. Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within 2 years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


ALLIED FLORISTS OF HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP HONORING SHERI MONTGOMERY WHITE AAF TMFA

The 2017 Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship in honor of Sheri Montgomery White AAF TMFA has been established in the amount of $500.00. The scholarship may be used to attend any floral certification, Floral Design School or Horticulture program. The scholarship will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in Allied Florists of Houston. Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. Should a qualified Allied Florists of Houston applicant not apply, an applicant pursuing Texas Master Florists Credentials may be considered. All applicants must submit an essay outlining the applicants goals for the future, as part of the application and judging process. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within 2 years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


ALLIED FLORIST OF HOUSTON SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF WAYNE AND MABEL FISHER

The year 2017 Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship in memory of Wayne and Mabel Fisher Scholarship has been established in the amount of $500.00. This scholarship may be used at any accredited floral design school, state association credentialed class, community, junior college, university level of attendance at a regional, state or national floral industry convention. Priority will be given to applicants entering TSFA's TMF/TMFA program. The scholarship will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston. Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.

FLORIOLOGY INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF MILDRED E. RIDDLE

Education is the foundation & Key to success. Floriology Institute Education Scholarship has been established annually by BloomNet honoring Mildred E. Riddle for over 40 years she dedicated to the floral industry. Mildred's passion for the industry has allowed her to serve as president and board member of the West Texas New Mexico Florist Association where she earned the silver rose award. Floriology Institute is honored to present a $1,000.00 scholarship to our education center in Jacksonville , FL to any floral industry person whom meets the criteria established by the Texas Floral Endowment. The applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from the current TSFA Education Committee membership. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within one year of the award. There are no other restrictions.

FREYTAG FAMILY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF ANN HOBBS TMF

The 2017 Freytag Family Scholarship in Memory of Ann Hobbs has been established in the amount of $1,200. Ann's love for the floral industry set in motion the opportunity for her to serve as TSFA President. Her passion was the people. She was a founding member of the Texas Floral Endowment and paved the way for the scholarship programs through the Texas Floral Endowment. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant entering the Texas State Florists' Association's Texas Master Florist Program. Applicants must submit a 300 word essay outlining their interest in the Texas Master Florist Program. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within 2 years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


FTD BOOT CAMP SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 FTD Boot Camp Scholarship has been established in the amount of $500.00. The scholarship may only be used to attend the FTD Boot Camp, an informative three-day workshop with business design and quality training for shop owners and managers. The scholarship will be awarded a shop owner or employee of an FTD member shop. Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within 2 years of the award. There are no other restrictions.

JUDY RUTLEDGE AAF TMFA EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Judy Rutledge AAF TMFA Education Scholarship has been established annually by the Texas State Florists' Association Education committee honoring Ms. Rutledge for the over 20 years she served the TSFA Education Committee as a member and Chair of the committee. Ms. Rutledge's belief in education is evident by her willingness to dedicate her time, talents and experience to the floral industry in Texas. Any floral industry person may apply for the $500 scholarships toward full tuition at the Texas State Florists' Association School of Floral Design. The applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in floral design and submit a 500 word essay outlining the applicant's goals. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


NATIONAL DESIGNER OF THE YEAR SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 National Alliance of Floral Associations (NAFA) Designer of the Year Competition Scholarship has been established annually by Texas Floral Endowment to reward the Texas State Florists' Association Texas Cup Winner. This $650.00 scholarship, to be applied toward expenses, was established because of Texas Floral Endowment Board's belief in an individual's pursuit of their creative talent. The NAFA Designer of the Year Competition is a national design competition that honors the nation's most talented floral designers. The 2016 Texas Cup Winner must utilize this scholarship at the 2016 NAFA Designer of the Year Competition.

SHERI RENEE MONTGOMERY WHITE AAF TMFA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Sheri Renee Montgomery White AAF TMFA Memorial Scholarship has been established annually by the Texas Floral Endowment and funded by family and friends in honor of Sheri. She was a member of the Society of American Florists and served as Retail Director. As a respected leader Sheri served as President of the South Texas Teleflora Unit, as well as President of Allied Florists of Houston and Texas State Florists' Association for two terms. She held numerous committee chairmanships on the Allied Florist of Houston, Texas State Florists' Association and served as a member of the Texas Floral Endowment Board of Directors. Recognized for her service to the industry, she received the highest award Allied Florists of Houston bestows upon its members, the Buddy Benz Award as well as the Texas State Florists' Association Lifetime Achievement Award. With a 40 year career in the floral industry, Sheri's legacy of love and devotion to the TSFA, AFH, continuing education in the floral industry, and community service was an inspiration to all who knew her. Any floral industry person looking to excel in the floral industry may apply for the $500.00 scholarship towards full tuition at the Texas State Florists' Association School of Floral Design, Texas Master Florist Certification, or any accredited continuing education floral design school/program. The applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in the floral industry and submit a minimum 500 word essay outlining their industry goals and community service activities. The recipient must utilize the scholarship within 2 years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


SOCIETY FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF FLORAL DESIGN TMF/Career Change SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Society for the Advancement of Floral Design Scholarship will be established to be awarded in the year 2017. This $500 scholarship may be used at a 2-year accredited Texas Community College or Floral Design School with a major in horticulture, landscaping, or floriculture and may be used only for books, tuition or board. The scholarship will be awarded to an adult changing careers or wanting to complete their Texas Master Florist Certification in order to pursue a career in the floricultural, agricultural or horticultural industry. They must provide two references and write a paragraph explaining why they want/need the scholarship and show floral related awards. The applicant should be involved in Volunteer or Community Service Work. The application process must be completed correctly. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Texas for two years.


SOCIETY FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF FLORAL DESIGN FLORAL CAREER SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Society for the Advancement of Floral Design Scholarship will be established to be awarded in the year 2017. This $500 scholarship is to attend the Texas Certified Florist Program. The applicant must want further certification and have a talent or passion for flowers. They must provide two references and write a paragraph explaining why they want/need the scholarship. The applicant should show their floral related awards and outline volunteer activities or community work. The application process must be completed correctly. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Texas for two years,

TEXAS FLORAL ENDOWMENT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Floral Endowment Memorial Scholarship has been established in the amount of $500 and will be offered in 2017 in honor of those who dedicated their lives to the Texas State Florists' Association and the floral industry. This scholarship may be used at any accredited floral design school, state association or credentialed class, community, junior college, university level or attendance at a regional or state floral industry convention. The applicant must be a Texas Resident. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


TEXAS STATE FLORISTS' ASSOCIATION PAST PRESIDENTS' SCHOLARSHIP

The Texas State Florists' Association Past Presidents have established one $500.00 scholarship to be awarded in the year 2017. Any floral industry person may apply for the scholarship to attend the Texas State Florists' Association Texas Certified Florists Program providing he/she meets the criteria established by the Texas Certified Florist Program. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.


TSFA TEXAS FLORAL EXPO TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Texas Floral Expo Tuition Scholarship has been established by the Texas Floral Endowment in the amount of $300. This certificate is to attend a Texas Floral Expo in 2017. In addition to the certificate, the recipient will be presented $200 for travel reimbursement. The applicant must be a retail flower shop employee and have a minimum two years of floral industry experience. The applicant must be a Texas resident. The recipient will be chosen by a drawing and must utilize the scholarship in 2017. There are no other restrictions.


TUBBY ADKISSON AAF TMFA EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

The 2017 Tubby Adkisson AAF TMFA Educational Scholarship has been established by the Texas Floral Endowment in the amount of $800. This certificate is to attend a full session at the Texas State Florists' Association School of Floral Design. The applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in floral design and submit a 500 word essay outlining the applicant's goals. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.
