"Are you ordering flowers from a local florist"?

Telemarketing firms are posing as local florists and charging higher fees. You can protect yourself by taking these steps to be sure the flower shop you are choosing is really in your local town.
Steps you can take to choose a florist in your local town:
  • Check the home page and the "about us" pages for the physical address of the business.
  • Check the "contact us" page for a local telephone number. It should match or be in the same area that flowers are being delivered. If there is not a telephone number, be cautious.
  • Call the local number. If the phone is answered "Flower Shop" without including a name of the florist, ask who you have called. If they don't provide the name of the company you dialed, you may have reached an order gather or telemarketing firm.
  • Ask for the business' street address and directions to the shop. If they won't provide this information, consider calling a different florist.
  • Be aware that just because an ad or website name indicates "City Name Florist" it does not necessarily mean the company is located in that city.
Texas State Florists' Association cares about the handling of floral orders in Texas. Make sure your florist is "local".

Litany of Flowers
Colors used most predominately in use and the symbolism of each

White White is used as a symbol for purity. You will see white used on occasions that commemorate Christ's life on earth, like Christmas, Easter, and Ephiphany. The purity of white is appropriate for new birth, and therefore is used for baptism. It is also used for other important events in the lives of people, such as weddings and funerals. White is the presence of all colors.
Red Red is used to symbolize both the fire of the Holy Spirit and martyrdom. Since it is also the frequent color of choice for ordinations and consecrations, one is left somewhat confused as to whether the red is symbolic of the descent of the Hold Spirit upon the newly ordained or the new bishop, or in anticipation of a new church martyr.
Purple Purple is used for penitence and to indicate sorrow. However, purple is also used as a symbol for royalty.
Green Green is the symbol of life. It is also the symbol for growth, fertility, and spring.
Blue Blue is also used as a symbol for penitence. No one is quite certain whether blue or purple provides a more meaningful outward sign of a contrite spirit. However, blue is also used for penitential preparation, as during Advent. It is also traditionally the color assigned to the Virgin Mary.
Rose The color "rose" is used for the Fourth Sunday in Lent and Third Sunday in Advent.

TEXAS FLORISTS DELIVERED OVER 500 FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS TO HOSPITALS AND NURSING HOMES

Following the annual convention of the Texas State Florists’ Association, held this past July, dozens of Texas Florists rearranged the many floral displays, placed them in vases, and then delivered over 500 bouquets and arrangements to hospitals and nursing homes in the Clear Lake area.

TSFA Members personally delivered the hundreds of bouquets to the hospitals. Volunteers then carried the arrangements to nurse’s stations, patient rooms, and common areas. TSFA received dozens of thank you cards and messages. One nursing home resident said, “When I walked into the dining room, I was speechless. I noticed everyone felt the same way.”

“We are so delighted to know that patients and hospital staff at these fine medical institutions have an opportunity to enjoy the most magnificent floral arrangements our florists can create, “ explains Judy Rutledge, President of the Texas State Florists’ Association. “This is part of the excitement of the convention every year, wherever it is held, that the 800 Texas florists who attend the convention annually know that their creations are not going to waste, but will have a glorious second life at local hospitals.”
